Fresh Coast Creatives: Photographing indigenous quillwork with Minnie Wabanimkee
I recently had the good fortune to meet photographer Minnie Wabanimkee, hear about quill art and quill artists, and produce her story for #interlochenpublicradio. There’s always so much more to say! This evocative tidbit got cut due to timing constraints…
Minnie has been photographing Native American culture for decades. Daughter Kelsey remembers going to pow wows throughout the Midwest with her mother. A bag of film and the weight of her mother’s huge lens slung over one shoulder and a piece of fry bread in the other hand… Kelsey was always trying to keep up so her mother could get the shot.
Listen to the full story HERE.
Aren’t these quill boxes gorgeous?!
Cheers,
