It started as a spark — a friend heard one of my audio pieces about everyday folks at a rally, holding signs that bared their hearts. She called me crying, saying those people were saying what the country felt, that it reminded her to be brave, to get out and take a stand.
That conversation sparked something within me. I woke the next morning hearing an audio series with everyday voices sharing their concerns and dreams. I heard the Star Spangled Banner fading in and out. And I saw the Home of the Brave title as the container.
What followed wasn’t easy. I wrestled with the format. Doubted the direction. But something about it stuck with my soul. I couldn’t let it go, even when I thought it was an idea I couldn’t quite implement.
But I knew I had to keep going.
And then came a voice that brought it all into focus. A retired attorney. Boy Scout. Patriot. He spoke with clarity and courage about the Constitution, what’s being eroded, and what must be reclaimed. Steve Garrard’s story — deeply thoughtful and deeply American — became the format.
✨ This is Home of the Brave.
It’s about neighbors speaking up for democracy.
It’s about hope, honesty, and action.
🎧 Listen to Steve’s story.
And please do share widely. Also let me know if you’d like to be part of the conversation or would like to recommend a friend or neighbor.
PS - I went back and reframed Jana Goldman’s story to align with the format. (Listen to that episode HERE.)
