Happy New Year, friend!
After the whirlwind of the holidays, I’m so happy to jump into my New Year’s ritual of starting a new journal. At the beginning of each year, I always look back on what worked, what didn’t, what stretched me and what fed my soul. Then I mindfully set the stage for the New Year with a word or phrase that becomes a touchpoint. I’ve been doing this for decades, and here are some of my journals:
While I usually start the New Year by clustering highlights of the previous year, this year I responded to five questions posed by one of my favorite journaling leaders, Suleika Jaouad @ The Isolation Journals HERE.
What in the last year are you proud of?
What did this year leave you yearning for?
What’s causing you anxiety?
What resources, skills, and practices can you rely on in the coming year?
What are your wildest, most harebrained ideas and dreams?
Just write what comes to mind without worrying about grammar, punctuation or spelling. You want to get the words from your head and heart onto the page so you can process them in a different way than just passing thoughts.
As usual, my reflections were eye-opening, affirming and deeply meaningful. I highly recommend Suleika’s list or my four questions: what worked, what didn’t, what stretched me and what fed my soul. Then pick a word (or three) or phrase for the New Year that will guide your actions and become a touchpoint when you need it. Trust me; this is so empowering as you’ll see when you reflect back at the end of 2025. Have fun with it!
Wishing you a happy, healthy New Year!
