SIX Bald Eagle Sightings
Lead to Today's Journal Prompt
Last week as I was driving north to see my bff at her cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I saw a bald eagle. Then another. And another. Now, I do see bald eagles where I live and sometimes even two in a day, but never in my life have I seen three bald eagles within the span of three hours.
After I crossed the Mackinac Bridge, I pulled my car over to google the symbolism of bald eagles. After all, seeing three in such a short time frame felt unusual, and I wondered if there was any symbolism associated with the bird.
The site, www.pure-spirit.com, had a lot to say about the bald eagle:
The eagle is the chief over all the winged creatures. Eagle conveys the powers and messages of the spirit; it is man's connection to the divine because it flies higher than any other bird. The eagle brings the message of renewed life because it is associated with the east winds - the direction of spring, dawn and rebirth.
If an individual has been going through a hard time, eagle not only signals a new beginning, but provides that person with the stamina and resilience to endure the difficulties. If eagle has appeared, it bestows freedom and courage to look ahead. The eagle is symbolic of the importance of honesty and truthful principles. Summon the eagle when you are about to embark on a challenge, a massive life change or a creative endeavor.
The last sentence caught my attention… “summon the eagle for a challenge, a massive life change or a creative endeavor.” My life is one big creative endeavor, so summoning the eagle was interesting but not a game changer. However, summoning the eagle for a challenge did resonate.
As my sisters’ navigate health challenges, it’s been hard to watch them go through the medical system and endure the myriad of procedures and chemotherapy. I do need stamina and resilience as I support them in their healing. Maybe summoning the eagle could help.
I created a page in my journal to gain clarity. No surprise; I had a magazine image with an eagle perched on a branch. A giant eye was among the other images on the page. I pasted the images into my journal and jotted down the symbolism of the eagle with my white gel pen. It’s a pretty page that sparked some journaling about navigating life challenges and ways to amp up self-care and resilience.
After a fun weekend hanging out with my bff in her cozy cabin, I headed south. Within the space of 90 minutes I saw three more bald eagles. :-)
And that leads to today’s journal prompt from one of my Pocket Inspiration Cards. I crafted these cards for myself during the pandemic, but they sure do resonate with others as journal prompts. Of course I have one with a bald eagle as the image on one side and the following journal prompt on the other. How fitting for today!
