A few days ago I was in Traverse City to capture the sounds of some bell ringers. Jill Van Stratt and her sisters, Sally Drilling and Chris Ameel, were most obliging — and they agreed to let me interview them for The Volunteers series at Interlochen Public Radio. It was totally spontaneous, but how could I resist? Every year they wear colorful outfits, play music and dance outside of Horizon Books — even in 19 degree temperatures. Sally and Chris nominated their eldest sister, Jill, to speak for the group, and that was a very good choice. Volunteering and giving of their time and resources was instilled in the sisters by parents Paul and Lorna Ameel. It’s a fun story. Take a listen HERE.
That wraps up The Volunteers for 2024. We’ll be back in 2025 sharing more stories of volunteers giving of their time, energy and passion. If you're in northern Michigan and want to share your volunteer story or recommend a friend/colleague for the series, DM me. I'd love to produce it!
Cheers and happy holidays,
Leslie Hamp
